Nightmare

Cheevos found in H > Planes > Nightmare

Nightmare Rifts will produce waves of mobs at random for each stage of the rift. Each stage will have a timer, if you do not kill all the mobs before the timer is up then the rift will close. If you do kill all the mobs, then another stage will start with different mobs. This means that NMR rifts can go on for hours! Some groups have even gone beyond stage 1000! Most groups will wipe around stage 220 as this is one of the most significant difficulty level increase. If your group manages to get to stage 300 (the last cheevo) then it will likely disband shortly after, even if you are still killing with ease. Stage 300 will take an average ground around 2.5 hours to reach.. so most people are done by that point!

Nightmare Rifts have a shield barrier in a circle around them. When you walk through the barrier you will be auto-mentored to the level of the rift, which will depend on which zone the rift is open in.

Opening Nightmare Rifts

You will likely find a few Nightmare Rifts out in the open world while you are questing. If you choose to join in with these then you will pop a few cheevos as you go.
When you reach max level, you will find Planarite is a much needed resource and that Nightmare Rifts are the way most people farm it. Joining in with these NMR groups can be very benficial to your cheevo score, as these groups will often farm for a full 2 hours (The time a currency vial lasts) and thus will get well into the 200+ stages. A few of these groups may even stay and continue farming all the way to stage 300 if players want to.

When you want to open your own NMRs, you can buy the lures directly from the rift store with Planarite.
To start, you will only be able to purchase NMR I lures. You will need to open a few of these and earn 18 of the small NMR I cheevos to earn the meta cheevo ‘Nightmare I: Master’. This will allow you to buy NMR II lures, you then open a few NMR IIs and complete 18 of the small NMR II cheevos to earn the ‘Nightmare II: Master’ and this allows you to buy NMR III lures.
Continue working your way up the tiers until you can buy all the different lures, then farm the ones you still needs cheevos for!

Use a normal blue/white tear to open your NMR.

NMR I & II
Can be opened in Mathosia, Storm Legion, and Nightmare Tide zones.

NMR III, NMR IV, NMR V & NMR VI
Can only be opened in Nightmare Tide zones.

Note: in NMR 6 you wont be automentored, so you can stay at level 70 and blitz quite a few levels! This is perfect for a quick run of the daily/weekly quests.

Power Ups and Mechanics

A group of level 70 players will be able to easily power through many many levels of a Nightmare Rift. Follow the simple rules of ‘Don’t stand in bad’, ‘Use rupt and purge’, and ‘Don’t touch power ups if you don’t know what they are for’.
As you get into the higher levels you will need at least one player who does know how to use the power ups. Delegate a player for this job and be sure everyone else knows not to touch the power ups.
The difficulty of the Nightmare Rift will scale up as more players arrive. Be sure players know to move out of the rift if they need to AFK, or they will just be making it harder for everyone else. Many rifts have failed due to an afker standing in the bad and putting a shield on the boss!
Some players are very able to solo Nightmare Rifts up to high level, especially in lower level zones where the mentoring system can help (use the feast!). Most players will prefer to join a group.

This is the end of the Nightmare Rift Questline. There is no cheevo for completion.

Nightmare Rift Cheevos

You will find the cheevos in H > Planes > Nightmare.

In the main ‘Nightmare’ tab, you will find the ‘Master’ cheevos for each tier. Completing this cheevo will allow you to buy the next tier of NMR lures.

Each tier has it’s own cheevo section.
They all have a cheevo for going up stages of the rift, every 15 stages up to stage 300. They also each have an artifact set to complete and cheevos for opening each tier of NMR. Finally, there are cheevos for killing each of the main bosses, which are different for each different NMR tier.
You need to earn 18 or 20 of these smaller cheevos to complete the master cheevo.

You do not have to complete each tier in order.

Nightmare I: Master

Awards 5 Illusory Motes and the Delusion of Grandeur ability.

The Delusion of Grandeur ability can be found in your ability book under the general tab. Using the ability makes your character about 20% bigger.
This ability was added to game as a compensation after the rework to Fury of the Ascended meant that it no longer made your character bigger when you used it.

Nightmare II: Master

Awards 6 Illusory Motes and the ‘Felljell’ companion pet.

Nightmare III: Master

Awards 7 Illusory Motes and the ‘Nuffin’ companion pet.

Nightmare IV: Master

Awards 8 Illusory Motes and the ‘Munchie’ companion pet.

Nightmare V: Master

Awards 9 Illusory Motes and the ‘Imaw’ companion pet.

Nightmare VI: Master

Awards 10 Illusory Motes.

Nightmare Seal - Consumed By Nightmares

In each NMR tier you will find cheevos for equipping and upgrading a ‘Nightmare Seal’.

The Seal used to be very good when level 65 was the max level. The only reason to get this seal now is for these cheevos. It is a long path to upgrade it, but you will be collecting most of the items needed while you do all the other Nightmare Rift cheevos.

The Seal is crafted by the various crafting professions. The recipe will be trained from the profession trainer as you level up the profession.

Apothecary crafts ‘Rage of the Feral’ – With the Strength stat
Armorsmith crafts ‘Aegis of the Unbroken’ – With the Endurance stat
Artificer crafts ‘Anathema of the Consecrated’ – With the Wisdom stat
Outfitter crafts ‘Oculos of Torment’ – With the Intelligence stat
Weaponsmith crafts ‘Heart of Malice’ – With the Dexterity stat

The seal is easy enough to craft and upgrade the first few stages, however there are 10 upgrade stages and the last few require Nightmare Amenders, which are a nightmare to craft! It is many layers of crafting to forge the amenders, using most of the different crafting skills, so you will need to utilise alts or other players if you don’t have all the crafts on your character.
You will also need a lot of the Illusory Motes, which come from the Nightmare Caches dropped every 10 stages of a Nightmare Rift. The higher level caches are more likely to have Motes inside them, so try to farm NMR5 and NMR6 for these. You wont find any in the blue or green caches, they are only in Purple, Orange and Red caches.

Once you have spent all the effort to upgrade the seal.. you can just chuck it away or send it to a level 65 alt. It is useless at level 70.
